Sonja Regina Thompson, affectionately known as Regie to her friends and family, passed away on August 17, 2025, in Powdersville, SC, at the age of 76. Born on March 5, 1949, in Greenville, SC, Regie lived a life marked by laughter, adventure, and an unwavering spirit of courage.
Regie's early years were spent in the town of her birth, where she cultivated a love for the sciences that would later define her career. Her favorite job as a lab technician not only fulfilled her intellectually but also serendipitously led her to the love of her life, Marion Thompson. Together, they shared a bond that was as deep as it was joyful, until Marion's passing.
Her life was a tapestry of relationships and experiences, woven with the threads of her passions and her love for her family. Regie was a beloved mother to Misty Masters and Jason Masters, and a cherished stepmother to Theresa Fancher, Deborah Wells, and Sherrie Waddell. Her eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren brought her immeasurable joy, and her laughter was a constant presence at family gatherings.
Regie's zest for life extended beyond her family. She was a woman of many interests, with a particular fondness for the majestic vistas of the Grand Canyon. Her adventurous spirit found expression in her love of travel, and she was always ready for a new journey, whether it was to a far-off destination or a local dance hall. Regie's love for roller skating and attending concerts spoke to her youthful heart, and her ability to find joy in movement and music was infectious.
Those who knew Regie will remember her for her humor, which was as spontaneous as it was heartfelt. She had the rare ability to light up a room with her wit and to make anyone feel at ease with her warm presence. Her courage was evident not only in her battle with illness but also in her approach to life's challenges. She faced each day with a passionate spirit, never losing her drive to experience all that life had to offer.
Regie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the courage to embrace life with open arms. Her memory will be treasured by her family, including her best friend and life sister, Brenda Garrett, who stood by her through thick and thin. Regie's absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
