Susan M. Staring, affectionately known as Mom or Nana to those she held dear, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2024, in Honea Path, South Carolina, at the age of 79. Born on July 12, 1944, in Niskayuna, New York, she was a beacon of love and faith, touching the lives of all who knew her.
Susan was predeceased by her beloved parents, Rene and Evelyn Dussault, her cherished husband, Robert C. Staring, and her dear brother, Rene "Skipper" Dussault. She is survived by a loving family, including her sister Marianne Dussault Ille (Nelson), sister Adrienne Polenz (Jimmy), brother Thomas Dussault (Sandy), her devoted children Laurie Ann Hoyt (Donnie), Leslie Marie Burmaster, and Daniel M. Rudmann (Stephanie), her step-children Melissa Y. Copeland (Eric), Melinda Y. Dutton (Bobby), and Charles T. Staring, her adopted children Ana Izaquirre and Douglas Hardy, her twenty grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews who will miss her deeply.
Susan's life was marked by her unwavering faith and the love she had for her Lord, Jesus Christ. As a single mother, she provided for her three children with grace and strength until she met the love of her life, Robert, with whom she shared many joyous years. Her career as a Certified Nursing Assistant in Travelers Rest, South Carolina, was more than a job; it was a ministry. Susan led many seniors to the Lord, sharing her faith and compassion with everyone she cared for.
Her interests were a reflection of her generous spirit and her desire to nurture those around her. Susan found joy in reading, engaging in Bible study, and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. Her green thumb was evident in her love for plants, and her home was always a welcoming space for family gatherings. Susan's outreach ministry was a testament to her commitment to telling anyone and everyone about Jesus, a purpose that defined her life.
Those who knew Susan would describe her as loving, faith-filled, and generous. She had an innate ability to make everyone feel loved and valued, and her legacy is one of kindness and devotion to her family and faith. Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 — "And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ."
As we bid farewell to Susan M. Staring, we celebrate a life that was full of passion and purpose. She has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many and her spirit will continue to inspire us. Though she will be greatly missed, we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace with her Lord and Savior.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Susan M. Staring will be laid to rest beside her husband, Robert, in a private ceremony. Her unwavering faith, the love she shared, and the lives she touched will remain as a lasting tribute to a remarkable woman. We honor her memory by continuing to live out the values she embodied and by keeping her spirit alive in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Susan, until we meet again.
