Susan A. West, 82, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed away on August 21, 2025, after a long battle with sarcoidosis, a lung condition she likely contracted while serving as a missionary in Luhansk, Ukraine in the early 2000s.
Her life was defined by extraordinary generosity, selflessness, and devotion to others. Susan sought to live in a way that reflected Christ’s compassion, continually putting the needs of family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers ahead of her own.
She quietly overcame personal hardships that might have been insurmountable for many, facing challenges with resilience and rarely speaking of her own struggles. She was always eager to share what she had—books, clothing, or anything else she thought might help or brighten someone’s day.
In her final years, even as her own health declined, she devoted herself to caring for her husband, Dwight, through his battle with dementia, despite the toll it took on her own health.
Those who knew Susan will remember her kindness, openness, and unwavering spirit of service.
She is survived by her husband, Dwight; her son, Loren; and her siblings, Myrna, Sandra, and Billy.
A service will be held at Golden Strip Church of Christ on Sunday, September 28, at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Miracle Hill Ministries at https://miraclehill.org/give/
