Theresa A. Horton, 73, of Travelers Rest, SC, passed away on December 16, 2025. Born in Portsmouth, VA, Theresa grew up in Melbourne, FL, where she developed the joyful spirit and generous heart that would define her life.

Theresa earned her Bachelor of Arts degree with honors from the University of Florida in 1975, where she was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa, and went on to receive her Juris Doctor from the University of Texas at Austin in 1984. She practiced as an attorney specializing in real estate and probate law and was a dedicated member of both the Greenville County Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar Association, where she served in the Real Estate and Probate Section. A respected legal professional, she co-authored "Real Estate Appraiser Liability" with Neil Waller, which was published in the Winter 1990 issue of the Real Estate Law Journal.

A woman of deep faith, Theresa was an avid member and ruling elder of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Travelers Rest, where her infectious laugh and warm presence touched the lives of countless people. She was deeply committed to volunteer work at Trinity, serving both children and adults with boundless energy and compassion, spreading God's love to all she

encountered. As one friend reflected, "Theresa is probably the most joyful person I have known.” Other words to describe her include “deeply spiritual, insightful, intelligent, giving, loving, and so funny."

Theresa's love of flowers brought beauty and joy to all who knew her. Her generosity knew no bounds—she faithfully donated to charitable causes close to her heart, including the Greenville Literacy Association, Meals on Wheels, Edgewood Children's Ranch, Crystal Lake Camp, Presbyterian Ministries, Trinity Presbyterian Church, Greenville Library, and her alma maters, the University of Florida and University of Texas at Austin.

Theresa loved the written word and collaborating with visual and musical artists. In 1976, she self-published a book of poems dedicated to her oldest brother, Bill, who had passed away. She and her father shared a love of literature, and she enjoyed weekly chats with him about current books.

Theresa is survived by her brother, Marcus Horton of Colorado; her biological daughter and husband, two grandsons, her stepmother, Carmen Horton of Arizona, and her former husband, Neil Waller, and his wife, Lyndon.

She was preceded in death by her father, William Monroe Horton II, her brother William Monroe Horton III, and her mother, Iris May Thomas Horton.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Travelers Rest, SC. Visitation will follow at the church.

Theresa celebrated many worthy causes, and in lieu of flowers at the service, she would be thrilled for you to support causes that you are passionate about in her memory.

If you would like to support some of her favorite ministries, we can suggest Trinity Presbyterian Church in Travelers Rest, the Greenville Literacy Association, or the Greenville area Meals on Wheels.
