Victor E. Starkey, affectionately known as Vic, passed away on May 10, 2026, at the age of 94. Born on July 23, 1931, Vic lived a life marked by Christianity, honesty, extraordinary dedication, profound intelligence, and a warmth that touched all who knew him.

Vic’s remarkable career began with his service as a B36 tail gunner in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, where he demonstrated courage and commitment to his country. Following his military service, he channeled his skills and intellect into the field of aeronautical engineering. At Cape Canaveral, Vic contributed to some of the most historic moments in space exploration, earning many awards for his work on the Mercury VII and Apollo Space programs as well as the Saturn V rocket. His contributions are a lasting legacy in the annals of America's space endeavors.

Beyond his professional achievements, Vic was known for his loving, funny, and intelligent nature. Those who knew him often spoke of his quick wit, his gentle humor, and his insightful perspectives on life. He embraced life’s joys with enthusiasm, finding great pleasure in dancing with his wife, traveling, snow skiing, golfing, and spending time at the beach. Vic also had a discerning palate and was passionate about great food. He loved sharing memorable meals with family and friends. 

Vic is survived by his devoted daughters: Vicki Rush (Perry), Celina Weems, Brooks Galloway (Wally), and Sabrina Crumpton (Jack). His family legacy extends to ten cherished grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews who remember him fondly. The joy he found in family and the deep bonds he formed with loved ones remain a shining testament to his character.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Susan Starkey, whose memory he honored throughout his life.

Victor E. Starkey’s passing leaves a profound void, but those who had the privilege to know him will carry forward his spirit of love, laughter, and curiosity. His life stands as a beacon of dedication—to his country, to innovation, and most importantly, to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with respect and admiration.
