Virgel "Bobby" Allen, a cherished pillar of the Greenville community, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2025, in his hometown of Greenville, SC, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on December 3, 1941, to the late Marie and Samuel Allen, Bobby's life was a testament to his enduring faith, his love for his family, and his dedication to his work and community.
Bobby's journey began in the very town where he would leave his lasting legacy. He was a beacon of light and laughter to all who knew him, embodying the very essence of a life well-lived. His beloved wife, Frankie Allen, predeceased him, leaving a legacy of love that continued to flourish through their children. Bobby was a devoted father to Bobby Allen Jr., married to Sheri, Benny Allen, married to Jackie, and Tammy Clardy. He was predeceased by his daughter, Carol Sullivan, as well as his beloved daughter-in-law, Phyllis Allen. His legacy extended to his 12 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his spirit of generosity and joy.
For over four decades, Bobby dedicated his professional life to J.P. Stevens as a head weaving technician, where his work ethic and leadership were an inspiration to his colleagues. His commitment to his craft was matched only by his involvement in his community, where he was an active and devout Christian. Bobby's faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in service and love.
Bobby's passion for sports was undeniable. He was an ardent supporter of the Clemson Tigers and relished every opportunity to cheer on the Atlanta Braves. His love for the game extended beyond the stands as he took great pleasure in coaching little league baseball, impacting the lives of many young athletes with his guidance and humor.
The mountains held a special place in Bobby's heart. He found solace in the tranquility of nature, often taking trips to the mountains to rejuvenate his spirit. However, it was the time spent with his family that Bobby cherished the most. He was the embodiment of a family man, selflessly giving his time, wisdom, and love to ensure that his family felt cherished and supported.
Bobby's life was marked by his funny and faith-filled nature. He approached every situation with a sense of humor that could light up a room, and his selfless demeanor ensured that those around him felt valued and respected. His presence was a comfort, his laughter a melody, and his faith a beacon that guided him through life's journey.
As we bid farewell to Virgel "Bobby" Allen, we celebrate a life that was rich in love, laughter, and unwavering faith.
