William Earl Gillian II, known affectionately as Gil, passed away on July 5, 2024, in Greenville, SC, at the age of 53. Born on August 10, 1970, in New Bern, NC, Gil was a man whose presence was a source of joy and comfort to all who knew him.
Gil was predeceased by his father, William "Earl" Gillian, his brother Jamie Gillian, his paternal grandmother Frances Leopard, his paternal grandfather Ray Phillips, and his maternal grandmother Janie Phillips. He is survived by his loving mother, Rebecca "Jo Ann" Phillips Bryant, his stepfather Ted Bryant, and his siblings Donna Bryant, Mary Phillips, Hilda Bryant, and Faith Marlowe. His cherished daughter, Kayla Gillian, will carry forward the light of his legacy. Gil also leaves behind his paternal grandfather, Wayne "PeeWee" Leopard.
His professional life was as diverse as it was rich with experience. Gil worked with children in a boy's home, held various manufacturing positions, and lent his skills to the electrical and construction industries. His hands were skilled in many trades, but he would humbly claim mastery of none.
An avid fisherman, Gil found solace and joy in the embrace of nature. He was a man who cherished his family above all else and found great pleasure in sharing his extensive knowledge of plants, survival, camping, and wildlife. Gil's artistic talents were yet another facet of his creative spirit, and his artwork was as genuine and heartfelt as the man himself.
To know Gil was to know a man of simplicity and purity of heart. He was a loving and selfless individual who dedicated his time to the people he loved. Gil's selflessness was evident in every aspect of his life, from the way he cared for his family to the passion with which he pursued his interests.
Gil's creative soul shone brightly through his art and his ability to find beauty in the ordinary. His legacy is one of love, generosity, and creativity—a legacy that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have been a part of his life.
As we bid farewell to Gil, we celebrate a life lived with unwavering kindness and a gentle spirit. He was a beacon of love and selflessness, whose memory will continue to guide and comfort us.
