Green Cremation
What is Green Cremation?
Green Cremation is a modern, eco-conscious approach to caring for your loved one that reduces environmental impact while keeping arrangements simple, dignified, and affordable.

Instead of following the traditional funeral home model, Green Cremation emphasizes:
- π Paperless and Digital Arrangements – Reducing waste, and unnecessary travel with guided and unguided online planning.
- π Eco-friendly choices — biodegradable urns, natural memorial keepsakes, and optional outdoor memorials.
- π§ Water-Based Cremation (Aquamation) – A gentle, flame-free process that uses less energy and lowers emissions. We are the 1st in the State of South Carolina to offer this service.
- π³ Tree Planting in South Carolina – Through our partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, we plant trees in the Sumter National Forest as a living tribute.
- πΊπΈ National Tree Planting Services – Families can extend this impact nationwide, helping to restore forests across the U.S. in memory of their loved one.
- π€ Family-Centered planning – Live streaming services for distant loved ones or those who cant attend in person, ceremonies in natural or community spaces, outdoor memorials, and flexible options for every family’s values.
- π΅ Cooperative styled pricing — membership is free, and our model allows us to pass meaningful savings on to families compared to expensive traditional funeral homes.
Green Cremation doesn’t mean “less care.” It means greater intention — honoring your loved one’s memory in a way that reflects both their life and their values, while also being kind to the world they leave behind.

Cremation Society of SC-Westville Funerals Green Cremation Efforts
We believe that honoring lives can also honor the Earth. That’s why our Green Cremation program is designed to reduce environmental impact without compromising care. We’ve moved nearly all of our arrangements paperless, partner with local artisans and vendors for biodegradable urns, and use energy-efficient facilities to reduce carbon emissions. Members enjoy free membership and benefit from transparent cooperative styled pricing—allowing families across Greenville, Spartanburg, Easley, Pickens, Anderson, Greenwood, Laurens and the rest of the Upstate to access thoughtful, eco-conscious cremation services. We also support outdoor and virtual memorials, provide guidance for scattering and keepsake options where permitted, and ensure every contact is personal, compassionate, and locally grounded. Other ways we've made efforts to reduce our carbon footprint is by also offering a tree planting memorial service.
